How to Play Deep Drill

There is no title screen and no start button. The page finishes loading and the bit is already cutting downward, which tells you most of what you need to know. Every metre of rock the drill gets through pays out ore, and ore is the single currency — nothing else to collect, nothing else to spend it on. The well doesn’t pause when you look away, either: it keeps cutting while you stare at the upgrade list, and it goes on banking ore after the tab is shut. You cannot lose Deep Drill. You can only be running a rig that earns less per minute than it could.

The rig panel is where the actual game lives. Twelve upgrade tracks sit stacked in rows, each with a price, and clicking that price buys one level. A mode key flips between buying a single level and buying every level you can currently afford in one press. The tracks pull in different directions rather than all being “more money faster” — a bigger bit cuts quicker, coolant handles rock too hard for raw speed, a wider hopper means each metre carries more ore, and a night shift raises what the rig makes for you overnight. Those effects multiply against each other, so the question is never whether to upgrade. It’s which of the twelve rows is holding your rate down right now.

Tips to Dig Deeper, Faster

  • Diagnose before you spend. Watch what’s limiting you — metres per second, or ore per metre. The cheap row that fixes the real bottleneck beats the expensive row improving something already fine.
  • Coolant answers a stall. If the drill visibly grinds as it goes deeper, hardness is the problem and more bit speed won’t touch it. Cutting through tough rock is a separate track for a reason.
  • Buying the full ladder isn’t always right. Max mode empties your ore into whichever row you pressed. That’s efficient when you’re deliberately pushing one track, wasteful when you were two minutes from affording something better.
  • Take the night shift seriously. Background earnings are free progress, so anything raising what the rig makes while you’re gone pays you for time you weren’t going to spend playing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Deep Drill free to play?

Yes. It’s free in your browser with nothing to install, and it works with a mouse or by tapping on a phone.

Do I lose progress when I close the tab?

No. The rig carries on working with the browser shut, so ore piles up in the background and you return to a bigger pile than you left.

Can I lose or run out of time?

You can’t. Nothing here ends a run — no clock, no health, no failure screen. The only variable is how fast you’re earning, which comes down to how well you’ve spent your ore.
