How to Play Tunnel Escape

Underground, in the dark, with something waiting around the corner — Tunnel Escape takes that setup and runs it as a fast fighting game you play entirely with the mouse. There is no keyboard layout to memorise. You direct your character, attack with the weapons you have, and fire off skills, all through the same pointer. The tunnels themselves are a maze rather than a corridor, so getting out means picking a direction as well as winning the fights along it. Each level ends when you have cut a route through to the far side.

Two things make it hard, and they pull in opposite directions. The monsters want you to stand and fight; the traps want you to keep moving and watch where you step. Enemies attack in patterns you can read and sidestep, which means positioning matters more than raw clicking — walk out of an incoming swing rather than trading hits with it. Meanwhile the level itself is hostile, and a dark tunnel hides hazards until you are close. As you descend, the game answers your growing power by giving the monsters more of their own, so a tactic that carried the early levels stops working somewhere in the middle and you have to find the next one.

Tips to Get Out Alive

  • Keep moving between attacks. Standing still is what gets you hit. Strike, step out of range, and come back in rather than parking on top of an enemy.
  • Save skills for the crowd, not the straggler. Your abilities are worth the most when several monsters converge. Burning one on a single weak enemy leaves you empty at the worst moment.
  • Fight in the open, not the pinch. Narrow parts of the tunnel take away your room to dodge and let enemies surround you. Back into a wider stretch and let them come to you.
  • Take corners slowly. The dark is doing half the work for the traps and the ambushes. Edging around a bend gives you the half-second you need to react to whatever is on the other side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tunnel Escape free to play?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser with no download or account.

Do I need a keyboard?

No. The whole game runs on the mouse, so a trackpad works fine and so does a touchscreen.

Does it get harder as I go?

Yes. Later levels bring tougher monsters and more dangerous traps, and the layouts get more complicated to navigate, so the challenge scales in both combat and route-finding.
